The task :
Phase 1
Students are to choose their favourite play/theater that can fit into the theme of " OPULENCE" for its stage set. Understand and analyse the playwright's script, aspiration, requirement and the feel of the play before embarking on your idea formulation. Analyse and evaluate critically courses such as images, objects, artifacts and texts, showing understanding purposes, meanings and contexts. Research on artist and arts related to "opulence" in broad manner : artists, arts craft, visual arts, performing acts, etc. Students are to create individual brief/design intention.
The size of the stage is 15m by 10m by 10m. (length, width, height)
Phase 2:
Ideas formulation :present 3 alternatives concepts for crti 1. Show accumulation of work in journal and model form. Students to show personal interpretation on the theme opulence. Experimenting/exploring ideas using analyzing methods and outcomes. Students are to create and develop individual brief/design intention.
Phase 3:
Design Development. Develop ideas through sustained investigations and exploration, selecting and using materials, processes and resources, identifying and interpreting relationships and analyzing methods and outcomes. Present ideas using mock-up/conceptual model.
Phase 4: Final Draft
Crit and assessment. Present draft model and draft presentation drawings (including concept diagrams) on one A1 board.
Phase 5 : Final crit
Present a personal, coherent and informed response, realizing intentions, articulating and explaning connections with the work of others. Show models, drawings and journal.
So i just copied what is written in my hand out, so that people could understand what is the criteria and element needed in this project.
I choose the movie Lord Of The Rings and the musical, as my stage set, it is at Rivendell where the council of Elrond decide what to do with the one ring, it is also where Frodo Baggins volunteered to bring the ring to mount doom to be destroyed.
first draft (concept)
"mini stages" added
based on zaha hadid's design
Final product : Rivendell
Rivendell, without lighting.
With lights
Right doors
Left doors
Can't believe its final exam again @@, which means no more project till next sem, lol, finally can get some rest. Art review is on the 18th of may, hopefully i'll not be too lazy to upload the pictures later XD.

Semester 2, Project 2 - " An Ode To Ib" (accomplished)
The 2nd project this semester, as the title says, a tribute to Ib, where Ib refers to the famous Dato Ibrahim Hussein. Dato Ibrahim was a malaysian painter who contributed a lot to this country through his paintings. He passed away not long ago, on 19th February 2009. So this project is a dedication to him, may god bless his soul.
Reference painting (Fighting Cockerels - by Dato Ibrahim Hussein)
we are required to create a mood box for ibrahim hussein, based on his past paintings. I choose "fighting cockerels" cause of the way Ib made the rooster abstract, with all the lines and colours. So this is my final product :
front view of my mood box
2 cockerels fighting
Light's on >.<
So there goes another project, startin a new one soon, its about designing a stage, like a musical /play stage. Till then:)

Semester 2, Project 1 - "From Here To There" (accomplished)
After a long break, its time to post again, haha. My 1st art project this semester just ended yesterday, and here is how the project goes :
ART AND DESIGN COURSEWORK
SEMESTER 2: PROJECT 1 (4 weeks)
TOPIC : FROM HERE TO THERE
Project outcome:
1) To create a journey "from here to there" through creative spatial movement that is confined within a volume of 6m cube. However, this volume of space can be stretched to a narrow vertical space or a long horizontal space.
2) Demonstrate an understanding of design principles through the design & planning and arrangement of a spatial journey.
3) Demonsrate ability to show design process in 2D and 3D means through sketches, 3D drawings and execution of 3D models.
4) Reflect and evaluate your commitment to this project and the final result.
You are advised to use the steps below to guide your work.
STEP 1 - Starting point: In your journal, sketch possible permutations of a 2D vertical and horizontal lines, If you prefer to do curved or diagonal lines, work on a black and white composition as well. Create many black and white composition with different compositions. These compositions could evolve from various concepts that you may have. You can also look into urban planning figure ground drawings for inspiration. Show to tutors at least 4 figure ground sketches before the end of studio (23/1/09)
STEP 2 - Drawing ideas from your ground sketches and deciding on a design direction you like, construct several models of your design/scheme. Proceed with developing and refining the models. Present 3 alternatives of your scheme on thursday (5/2/09) for furthur comments.
STEP 3 - Discuss your design process using sketches and working models during tutorial on 12/2/09
STEP 4 - Present final draft of scheme on Thursday 19/2/09 for final crit (models and schematic drawings). Based on the suggestion made by the tutors, improve your design for the final submission on 26/2/09
STEP 5 - Submit final scheme using drawings (plan, elevation, axonometric drawings on one A1 board) and a final all while model at 1:20 scale on 26/2/09 for assesment.
So here's some of the pictures taken on my project,
these are all the drafts models (none got accepted -.-, all kena rejected T_T)
My lecturer told me to look for other new ideas, so here's wat pop out from my head after that......
sideview
plan
the beginning(pathway to stage 1)
Here's my journey "from here to there". my concept is dreams, which everyone has. In order to achieve my dreams, i have to take a path, which is divided into 3 stages. In the very beginning, i have to walk up a simple staircase, which is the 1st stage of my dream. arriving at stage 1
After arriving at the 1st stage, I now have to walk a more difficult path, by climbing up and down a series of surfaces, in order to achieve the 2nd stage of my dream.
pathway to stage 2(series of surfaces)
arriving at stage 2
pathway to stage 3
the cubes at stage 3 are arranged that way(suspended high in air) so that it means that the final stage of my dream is the most difficult to achieve, and you can see the base of the cubes are made of perspect, so that when i walk this path, i can see everything beneath it, which is the 1st and 2nd stage of my dream. This indicates that i'll remember all that i've gone thru, including all those who've helped me. reaching the 3rd stage= dream achieved !!!!
orthographic drawings
orthographic ( plan)
orthographic (elevation)
orthographic (sideview)
Axonometric drawing
So, after a month of cutting styrofoam and cardboard, i'm glad its finally over. Special thanks to all thosen who've helped me,my parents, my lecturers Dr. Sab and Cik Linda, my classmates, my roommates who i spent my sleepless nights with, and of course Amy, thanks for your encouragements and supports. :) Till my next project.
